Brand Focus: Jax Coco

Jax Coco is a brand I have seen at many expos and have always wanted to get onto my blog.
With my body transformation/ weight loss journey I thought this would be the perfect time to get them involved with my blog, after having a phone chat with the marketing manager of Jax Coco, giving them an insight to my blog and my journey they were delighted to get on board and send me out some of their products to aid.

I was such a very generous care package of 6 x 1L bottles of Jax Coco Coconut Water and a jar of Jax Coco Extra Virgin Centrifuged Coconut Oil.  What a massive help they have been through several ways of consumption in my diet.

JAX COCO 1 LITRE TETRA COCONUT WATER - RRP $74.95 for 12pk carton:
I ALWAYS have a coconut water drink after a gym workout as its great for hydration as it is a natural source of electrolytes.
Why the coconut water craze? Well, its because its low on the glycemic index - it won't spike your sugar levels and won't promote body fat storage.
Opt for a coconut water after a gym workout instead of a sugary sports drink as those drinks are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup which is a high glycemic index sweetener that will do the opposite to what I explained above.

JAX COCO EXTRA VIRGIN CENTRIFUGED COCONUT OIL - RRP $18.95 for 400mL:
There is many benefits to coconut oil but what I want to focus on is the weight loss side of it because that's what I am trying to achieve as well as being healthy of course.
Coconut oil can be confused and has been previously put into the 'bad' category because of the high saturated fat levels but as we know saturated fat is not so bad and it's a healthier option as an oil.
Coconut oil is easier to digest and helps maintaining a healthier working of the thyroid and endocrine system. It helps with our metabolism by taking stress off the pancreas in order for us to burn up energy.

I have my work cut out for me with getting creative in the kitchen but I will leave you with a quick recipe of making your own homemade protein bars with the Jax Coco extra virgin centrifuged coconut oil.

Cake Batter Protein Bars

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2 tbsp Jax Coco  extra virgin centrifuged coconut oil
  • 4 tbsp of coconut flour
  • 1 tbsp of sprinkles
  • 3 scoops of WPI protein
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk (but add till you get the right cake like batter texture)

METHOD:
1. Combine all ingredients together in a bowl and mix.
2. Flatten ingredients into a tray then push in sprinkles on top
3. Refrigerate until mixture hardens
4. Cut into desired bar sizes
5. ENJOY!!

Keep your eye out because this is not the last you will see of Jax Coco on my blog, there is many more healthy recipes coming your way with use of the Jax Coco products!

Healthy Recipe: Homemade Healthy Papaya & Lime Sorbet

After having using Papaya in our breakfast's - I wanted to try something a little different and attempt a dessert. We love sorbet in this household as it's a healthy option for a dessert but lately we have been trying to home make as much of our foods as possible so we know exactly what is going into our body and allowing us to closely control our calories etc.

We made a most enjoyable, most delicious sorbet with Papaya!

Our homemade papaya & lime sorbet is a big hit! Even so that it is baby approved!! Niah couldn't get enough of it - this was actually Niah's first tasting of sorbet and it's fair to say we will be making this more often now that it's something we can all enjoy together.

Niah kept coming back for more, she would have a mouthful and then crawl off to do something and come back for more!

Here is how you can make our easy Healthy Papaya & Lime Sorbet -
Please note: overnight preparation is required for the papaya.

INGREDIENTS:
  • Quarter of a papaya - peeled, seeded and cut into small pieces.
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup natural sweetener
  • 1/4 cup light coconut milk
  • 2 tbsps lime juice
  • 1 tsp lime zest
  • 2 pinches salt

METHOD:
1. Freeze papaya overnight - cut into small pieces ready for blender in morning.

2. Place water and natural sweetener into a small saucepan on high heat - bringing it to boil and dissolving the sugar, ensure you stir constantly - generally about 4 mins. Take the syrup from the saucepan and put into a glass bowl to cool down for about 15 mins.

3. Take papaya out of freezer and cut into smaller pieces (if needed)

4. Combine the frozen papaya, syrup, coconut milk, lime juice, lime zest and pinches of salt into a blender. Allow the sorbet mix to blend until a thick smooth consistency.

5. Serve or freeze for an extra cold sorbet or to a more frozen consistency.

6. ENJOY!!

Below is some ideas on how to serve - in a ball jar or in a footed dessert bowl.

Brand Focus: Slim Secrets REVIEW

I was kindly, very kindly sent a stack of supplies from Slim Secrets to enjoy through my health and fitness lifestyle change and I have found a lot of new lovings that I wish to continue having within my journey thanks to Slim Secrets.

I am going to select out my top favs from the Slim Secret range that I was sent and give you an insight into these delicious pieces!

Low Carb Choc Mint Chip Fit Balls
Are you rolling out of bed for those early morning workouts? Pack these mini bite-sized pocket rockets in your gym bag and put the bounce back in your step! Perfect for on-the-go pre or post-workout snacks or as a balanced snack between meals.

I love anything choc mint and having to erase all those chocolate bars and ice creams from my diet - well not completely but in moderation I was able to replace the missing love of my life with the fit balls! They are just amazing, eye balls were literally rolling in the back of my head with each bite of these!
I don't really eat many protein balls because they just are filled with loads of protein powders and to be honest taste horrible because of everything they try to cram in their that are 'good' but Slim Secrets have the Low Carb Choc Mint Chip Fit Balls soooo right when it comes to their recipe for these.
The mint chips are literally chips of pure mint scattered throughout the balls.
Being about a 20 cent piece in size and about 5 to a serving pack they are the perfect snack size.
I really enjoyed having these as my post workout treat after gym as they were just the right amount of what I needed to put back into my body especially with some coconut water!

Key Highlights for Low Carb Choc Mint Chip Fit Balls:
  • High protein (16g* per serve)
  • High fibre
  • Low carb (1.9g* per serve)
  • Low sugar
  • Wheat free
  • Contain chia

Daily Fibre Power Bar
Pump a healthy dose of daily fibre into your day! Forget dry and flavourless snacks, nibble on a Daily Fibre Power snack bar to buy you time before the next meal hits the table. It gently helps to keep things moving smoothly (if you know what I mean), with loads of wholesome seeds and ingredients, including psyllium husks.

As I said to Slim Secrets directly on social media - this is by far my favourite bar of theirs! I love foods that are as close to their raw natural self and this is what it basically is! Packed with an amazing nut and seed mix - goji berry, chia seeds and sunflower seeds just to name a few of the delectable ingredients of this bar!
Again this was a bar that I liked having post-workout but also worked out as a great morning tea or afternoon tea snack and especially a good one for on the go, to grab out the cupboard and away you go.

Key Highlights for Daily Fibre Power Bar:
  • Over 7g of fibre serve*
  • Over 5g protein per 40g serve
  • Gluten free
  • 54% seeds and grain mix
  • A delicious, wholesome and convenient way to get your fibre!
  • Designed to satisfy your hunger for longer

Low Carb Fit & Fab Mini Protein Bar in Creme Caramel
"From drab to fab!
Team up with your best buddy and make exercise fun.
You will be feeling fit and fabulous in no time!
"

Creme Caramel Fit & Fab bar was like biting into a piece of fudge! It was so smooth going down and was a good caramel taste. When companies are putting protein into their products they seem to completely destroy the original taste of what they were going for but once again Slim Secrets have succeeded in having such scrumptious tasting products!
I loved having my mini protein bars after gym to pop that protein straight back in for a good recovery hit. An afternoon snack with a cup of hot green tea goes down a complete treat with this one!

(Sorry for no picture of the actual product but I ate it without taking pictures - that's how good it was!)

Key Highlights for Low Carb Fit & Fab Mini Protein Bar:
  • Below 1g sugar per serve*
  • 9.3g protein per 28g serve*
  • Only 1g of Carbohydrates per 28g serve*
  • Wheat Free
* Figures are rounded to the nearest whole value.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas with Papaya/Paw Paw

Being at the age of 23 now and having just had fresh raw Papaya or Paw Paw for the first time in my life! The only time I had ever had this was on my lips - you know that Lucas Paw Paw we all carry around in our handbags, that was it for me.

Why Papaya's?
Papaya's are actually one of the healthiest fruits available to us. They are a good source of fibre, folate, vitamin A, C and E. Boosts immune system, supports cardiovascular system, revitalises our bodies - maintain energy and vitality. And the list goes on!

I got a little creative in the kitchen and put together three (3) healthy breakfast options to have with Papaya -

Papaya Smoothie
Smoothie in a bowl like I did or in a cup

I blended up some Papaya, pear, banana, watermelon and almond milk creating a smoothie consistency and placed it into a bowl - topped it with some toasted granola, shredded coconut, dried figs, chia seeds and more fresh cut up papaya and ate this with a spoon!!
My little girl Niah whose nearly 10 months old now had a smoothie mix as well but I added in some yoghurt for a more thicker consistency for her, definitely can say she was very much a fan of this and enjoyed eating papaya raw as well.

Papaya & Lime on Toast

I loved this one! Who would have ever thought papaya and lime on toast would taste this good! It was a really refreshing and different breakfast to what I normally would have but it was sooo delicious!
I had some fig toast and cut up slices of papaya and drizzled lime juice all over it - mhmm mmm finger licking good! You really need to try this if you haven't already.

Papaya Chia Pudding

I have been known for mixing up some chia pudding a lot in my weight loss journey and posting it on my social media channels of the night before preps and in the morning with what I decide to put as my toppings.
Chia Seeds are so good for you as they are full of Omega 3, high in fibre and they fill you up. Chia Seeds swell up causing a water absorption - in this case some coconut or almond milk absorption and are like this pearl jelly texture when eating them.

My little Chia Pudding recipe is (for those who haven't already gotten it from me via messages, as this was a major hit and I was sending my recipe out nonstop after posting my images) -
1/4 cup of Chia Seeds - any chia seeds of your choice.
1 cup of Milk - either coconut, almond or maybe coconut water, again your choice.
1 tablespoon of honey/agave or syrup - I used golden syrup in this one.
Mix this all into a jar overnight or container and leave it to work it's magic overnight.
In the morning you will come to your 'pudding' - the selection of toppings to go with the Chia Pudding is completely up to you but to make it a 'Papaya Chia Pudding' add in some fresh, raw cut up papaya and top with some shredded coconut.

Hope In A Jar by Philosophy - First Thoughts Review

hope in a jar night
RRP $55

A brand that I have only recently discovered but am falling in love for is Philosophy.

I have one of their eye shadow palettes and ahhh utter admiration for the look it gives me but I am hear to tell you about Hope In A Jar which is a product I just recently tried out.

Philosophy's packaging is bold and well printed. Tell's you exactly what it in straight away on the front of the product - which is what I love! I don't want to spend half hour looking at all the different products on the shelf to find what I am looking for... If only they could all be as easy as Philosophy!

I was only sent little sample sizes of Hope In A Jar so this is a little review on what I thought whilst using the product for the few days that it took to get through the products.

I've always been a person to moisture my face twice a day - in the morning and at night. I think it's imperative to do that to maintain a good skin condition.
Testing and comparing moistures is my forte, I would say.

When I first used Hope In A Jar I couldn't pin point what kind of scents where in it and still can't properly now. It's a very thick consistency which I'm not used too. I found that my face broke out into sweats really fast after application. This happens with all moisturisers to me so I'm not sure if it's just my skin or something that makes me react.

Did you know that your body renews itself best as you sleep? That means nighttime is your skin’s best opportunity for treatment and repair. So, is it unreasonable to expect your night cream to fulfill your youthful dreams while you sleep? Not if you have hope.

Imagine waking up to smoother skin that is comfortably hydrated. Imagine having visibly radiant skin to start each morning. Imagine the glow of confidence you could carry with you all day.

Thanks to Philosophy’s breakthrough nighttime renewal technology, everything you imagine is possible. New hope in a jar night intense retexturizing moisturizer helps redefine your beauty sleep. it features a patented qusome delivery system that allows for better, gentler and more effective penetration of active ingredients.

The glycolic acid helps retexturize skin as it plumps the appearance of fine lines and even skin tone while the beta glucan helps strengthen skin’s natural cellular defense. Hope in a jar night is clinically proven to help improve the signs of aging with regular use: Redefine your beauty sleep.

Hope in a jar night intense retexturizing moisturiser is available now at select David Jones stores, davidjones.com.au, mecca maxima and adorebeauty.com.au

Max Factor Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara REVIEW

Take your lash look to the next level with NEW Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara – Max Factor's ultimate combination mascara for extreme volume with an intense jet-black lacquer finish.

Designed for women who feel let down by conventional volumising mascaras, NEW Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara combines a mega-volumising base with an intensely black lacquer top coat for never-before-seen lashes sure to get you noticed.

The same applies with mascara - applying an intense dark lacquer top coat to a low-quality volumising formula can reduce rather than enhance the thickening effect, as the lacquer could amplify existing unevenness.  This is why a high quality volumising base layer is so important, as it creates the perfect bed for an intense super dark lacquer to skim across – plumping, smoothing and sealing the lashes for a more intensely black lacquered look that lasts.

How does it work?
BASE COAT - EXTREME VOLUME: A super-thickening formula includes wax, dark pigments and volumising spheres to create a high quality finish with an abundance of high impact volume.  This, combined with our biggest brush ensures maximum volume.

TOP COAT - INTENSIFYING LACQUER: The jet black lacquer finishing coat is thinner than the volumising base coat, allowing it to flow across the lash surface. Because of the volumised micro texture of the base layer, the finishing lacquer coats lashes   from root to tip, meaning that you get an intensely black, glossy finish without removing or destroying the volume layer underneath. The gel-based formula further thickens & seals the lashes, instantly smoothing them and increasing the volume for a truly excess lash look that lasts.

STEP 1 - BASE COAT - EXTREME VOLUME

STEP 2 - TOP COAT - INTENSIFYING LACQUER

This mascara was a first start to a relationship with Max Factor - honestly blogging has to be one of the best things that I have take in my life as I wouldn't have tried or found out about great brands like Max Factor!

I was really unsure about using this mascara as it's really chunky and has a short brush piece so I was having a bit of trouble trying to get this onto my eyes and especially into the corners of my eyes where all those little lashes sit but after a few uses of the mascara you will work out how best to apply for your lashes.

I can't stand eyelashes that are just clumpy and look like a bad spiders web so for this mascara to not do that for me was the tick of approval that it would be used over and over again. Max Factor Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara gave me gorgeous full and defined eyelashes and gave me a look that I believe we all try to achieve in our eyelashes - that they look like you have falsies on without actually having falsies on.

As you can see from my eye shots you can tell that in the second step which is using the Top Coat - Intensifying Lacquer the colour really comes out and just makes those eyes pop and completely stand out from your face!

Max Factor Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara is available in stores from March 2014.

RRP - $25.95

OPI Gwen Stefani 'Hey Baby' & '4 In The Morning' Review

When I heard about Gwen Stefani's collaboration with OPI, I knew I had to get my hands on the range.
I can remember her being my idol and favourite singer from a young age when she was in No Doubt the band and running around singing 'Don't Speak' all the time (which I have now got stuck on repeat in my head!!)

I got 2 shades 'Hey Baby' and '4 In The Morning'

'Hey Baby' is like a darky pink - kind of like a fushia colour but a bit darker.
Hey Baby is a Creme Gloss nail polish that pretty much comes out onto the nail as a solid colour on first application.

'4 In The Morning' is a shimmery black colour. 4 In The Morning is a Satin finish - more like a matte finish look to me though. I think this shade would look really good on acrylic nails but for my own nails it was a little too dull for me so I added some glitter over the top and made it my feature nail.

Both these shades for me took about 5-6 days before it started chipping and coming off.

To view more about the range and see the other shades in the collection - you can see my original post here.

EHPLabs Shred Stack - Oxyshred & Acetyl L-Carnitine

As you may have read my two previous posts on EHPLabs products: Oxyshred & Acetyl L-Carnitine these are my shred stack within my weight loss journey.
EHPLabs kindly supplied me with these products to aid in my weight loss journey and I have been loving every moment of them.
No day is complete without them. My workouts are just so much more dirtier - and I mean that in a good way haha.

You know a product is working when your workout changes completely in terms of how much energy you have and how much more sweat you drip. It has never happened before during a workout for me but I literally was running on the treadmill the other day and bam a droplet of sweat ran straight off my nose! I felt so fantastic about that happening because I knew that everything was working and coming together burning that fat away and just smashed the rest of my workout!

It's important to keep changing up your workouts so your body isn't kept at the same pace and you can really push yourself more and achieve more.
I take on a lot of different exercise routines and going to a gym which has a range of classes is always good too - I part take in Body Pump, Body Balance, Boxing, Spin Classes and Pilates classes whilst at gym and do my own workout at times. Every Friday I am off doing Crossfit and on the weekends I am finding an outdoor activity to part take in or doing my housework haha!

Last weekend a longtime childhood friend of mine and I set off to where I always used to workout in my last weightloss journey - Kokoda Memorial Track up in the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne otherwise known as doing the 1000 steps.
I assure you this was no walk in the park for me and I definitely don't remember it being that much of a hard workout but gees those legs and butt were killing afterwards and the calves were burning the whole way through.
My training partner Oxyshred & Acetyl L-Carnitine were there to help me out and made for a hot one! Before you can even do a proper physical workout you are feeling like you have just walked into a sauna, I can feel my body temperature up at such a high temp.

I tried out Oxyshred & Acetyl L-Carnitine in a few different ways to see how I best find having the shred stack.
I had them at:

  • Room temperature - definitely not my forte and I don't think I could ever try this again, it's not that the product was bad but I just can't stand room temperature beverages!
  • Chilled water from fridge - my favourite way of taking the shred stack, it just slides back so easy and is like having a normal drink.
  • Frozen water from freezer - I actually mixed up my shred stack shake and put it into the freezer for a little bit so it would go icy, this was actually a good way of having it - although I wouldn't consume it all the time like that, it would be a good way to take in the summer time.
Oxyshred is a great pick me up to give you that energy booster in the afternoons when you are feeling a crash in your energy levels. Once taking it in the afternoon, after about 30 minutes your are left feeling rejuvenated and prepped again.

I also tried out the 'DO NOT TAKE AFTER 5PM' Oxyshred as I wanted to see what would happen to me... well lets just say staying up until 2am in the morning when you have a baby in the house isn't such a great idea, need I say more!
The instructions are there for a reason and I think I'll stick with that haha!

Having Oxyshred & Acetyl L-Carnitine in my journey has been a ball - I am definitely going to keep this shred stack stocked in my cupboards to achieve my goals.
I honestly don't think that without these I would be getting the results I am.
