Coles vs. Woolworths Online Shopping
Dan & I put to the test the online grocery shopping to see if this was going to be something better for our household. We had a few reasons for wanting to do online grocery shopping being:
- We don't want to impulse buy on things we see in the shops
- The weather may make it hard for us to get out with taking Niahbella (e.g if it rains we don't want to take Niahbella out in it - our local shops aren't undercover).
- Our local shopping centre has become a huge complex now with the recent upgrade and revamp adding in so many more shops so the car parking is a nightmare.
- If I was to go do the grocery shopping myself I wouldn't be able to as I have the pram with Niahbella.
- Catering for parties or large events it' a good way to get your bulk order to you.
First off Dan & I tried Woolworths because they offered free shipping for your first 3 orders so that enticed us to use them. Dan & I however usually shop at Coles for majority of our groceries as we just find the pricing better towards our overall shop.
When paying through Woolworths you need a credit card to purchase - this was the only pay method offered by Woolworths.
When we first got our order through Woolworths the driver asked where we would like the groceries - as I'm not always with a clean house I just advised to put them near the front door as I didn't want the driver to see my messy house haha!
I was pretty sceptical about ordering fresh produce from either store online but I decided to just order a watermelon piece to see how it arrived and I wasn't too impressed it was all yucky in the white part making it look like either it was an old piece or was just smacked around a bit to much on its way here.
My birthday came up in the next few orders I made with Woolworths and then they sent me an email giving me $10 off my next shop and a code to use for a Woolworths mud cake for free.
The usual delivery fee is around $13 for the order.
Dan & I then went onto try Coles as they offer first shop delivered free as long as it is over $100 and they have now introduced free delivery on a Wednesday - which is something we will be taking into consideration and most likely taking advantage off once we get our shopping sorted because we usually have a routine shop of having it delivered or going to the shops on a weekend so we always run out on a weekend basis.
When paying through Coles you can pay via credit card or you have the option of paying via EFTPOS when they deliver your groceries. I was going to try out the EFTPOS option to be a little different from what I had always done with Woolworths but then I thought it's just easier to get the payment done so the driver can drop the shopping and leave without having me run around to organise the payment, but this is a good option for those that don't have a credit card or debit card.
Something I found is that when I had my first shop I was missing quite a few things after my delivery had arrived and I checked the receipt and found it didn't have those missing products on there - so I had a little play around online and I noticed that when you click the 'add to trolley' button it doesn't always go into your actual trolley so I warn you to double check that it goes in!
As I said above for being sceptical with ordering fresh produce, I was being the same with Coles but decided to do a bigger produce order and it wasn't so bad but I found the lettuce wasn't that great and was small.
The usual delivery fee for Coles was between $9-$13 with a minimum shop of $50.
Overall when it comes to them both you can select a time slot that best suits you for delivery and day.
Make sure you sign up to both of the offer emails as they have different specials going from time to time where you will get free delivery etc.
I wouldn't order fresh fruit & veg produce as I would rather pick myself from the stores and no that it will be a good one rather then expecting anything to turn up via delivery.
