He’s spirited. He’s rugged. He’s wit-blessed. Ryan Reynolds is becoming Men Expert’s new Spokesperson. The actor’s rare ability to cast action, sci-fi and humorous roles with equal ease has hastened his rise into the ranks of Hollywood’s most-favored. With his bold masculine look and infallible charm, Ryan will represent the iconic franchise Hydra Energetic.

“Ryan Reynolds is the perfect embodiment of the contemporary man: genuine, uninhibited, strong and powerfully charming. Incredibly talented, he strikes as an enthusiastic and generous actor, a perfect match for Men Expert. We’re thrilled to welcome him, especially since 2014 marks the 10th Anniversary this year! The 37-year old Canadian actor and producer Ryan Reynolds officially started his movie career at the age of 14 when he obtained his first role in the Nickelodeon
series Fifteen (1990-91). He then appeared in several TV series including The Odyssey (1992), The Outer Limits (1995 and 1998) and The X-Files (1996). The year 1997 marked a turning point in his career as he was offered the leading role as Berg in Two Guys and a Girl. Although he had initially performed primarily in comedies, Ryan was quickly spotted by film-industry leading figures who recognized him for his potential as a multi-role actor. He was then offered roles in movies including Andrew Douglas’ The Amityville Horror (2005) where he played George Lutz, and crime action film Smokin’ Aces (2006) where he cast a role as an FBI agent. But Ryan is probably best-known for starring in Anne Fletcher’s romantic comedy The Proposal (2009), alongside Sandra Bullock, which was at the top of US box office immediately after its release, Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Rodrigo Cortés’ Buried (2010) or Daniel Espinosa’s action- thriller co-starring Denzel Washington Safe House (2012).

In 2014, Ryan will star in Atom Egoyan’s The Captive, Marjane Satrapi’s The Voices, and he will soon begin filming Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Mississippi Grind.
He is now joining the L’Oréal Paris family, alongside Hugh Laurie, Jennifer Lopez, Julianne Moore, Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria, and Blake Lively.

LUSH bans the use of plastic water bottles

Cosmetics retailer LUSH bans the use of plastic water bottles

-      National campaign to reduce unnecessary plastic consumption  -

Each year 8 billion bottles and cans are thrown into landfill or littered in Australia.* This alarming statistic is one that high street retailer, LUSH Cosmetics hopes to challenge next week as it launches a national campaign encouraging Australians to recycle and refill their water bottles instead of purchasing more unnecessary plastic. From the 17th until the 23rd of February 2014 LUSH is partnering with environmental conservationist group, TAKE 3 to raise awareness about the impact plastic has on the environment, our health and wildlife.

Australians spend over half a billion dollars on bottled water every year. Not only is bottled water on average 2000 times the price of regular tap water,* it is also a large contributor  to environmental damage globally. By choosing tap water over bottled water, people are choosing to care for oceans and wildlife, as well as their own personal health and the right to water without paying excessive amounts for it.

From the 17th February 2014, single-use plastic bottles will not be used by any staff member in LUSH’s 26 Australian retail stores, as well as the LUSH kitchen and head office.

LUSH will also be turning its stores into official refill stations, encouraging people to refill their water bottles for free as opposed to purchasing more unnecessary plastic.

Customers will be able to purchase a limited edition campaign drink bottle (RRP $15.95) with all profits donated to TAKE 3.

Throughout the campaign, LUSH’s eight flagship store windows will display 266 plastic water bottles in fishing nets, representing the amount of bottles and cans littered or thrown into landfill each second in Australia. LUSH staff will be educating customers in-store and encouraging them to take three simple steps of action to help reduce unnecessary plastic consumption.

1.    Refill – Purchase a reusable drink bottle and refill it in any LUSH store.

2.    Take 3 – Anywhere people go, they can take 3 pieces of litter away and dispose of it thoughtfully.

3.    Sign – Sign a petition asking for a 10 cent refund on beverage containers to reduce litter and double recycling rates across Australia.

Tim Silverwood, co-founder of TAKE 3 says,

"Over 6 million tonnes of trash enters the world's oceans every year to become marine debris. Marine debris is responsible for the death of over a million innocent sea creatures every year. Estimates suggest that up to one third of total global plastic pollution comes from the beverage industry alone! We all have a part to play in reducing the amount of plastic entering our oceans and landfills. Refilling your reusable water bottle is a simple action that will help save the planet, our oceans and save you money!”

Emma Hart, Ethical Campaigns Co-ordinator says,

“At LUSH we believe in not using excess packaging. Single-use plastic makes up a huge percentage of waste that makes its way into our oceans, so we have decided to be part of the solution. While we are running this campaign with Take 3 in our shop windows for one week, we are committed to making a longer lasting difference. We have banned the use of plastic beverage containers throughout our business and have turned our stores into permanent refill stations to encourage our customers to refill their reusable drink bottles.”

About TAKE 3
‘Take 3' is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2009 that aims to raise awareness of marine debris by encouraging each visitor to the beach, waterway or...anywhere to simply take 3 pieces of rubbish with them when they leave. We also encourage everyone to reduce their unnecessary plastic consumption - and make our lives a little less plastic.
'Take 3' aims to expand their message throughout Australia and the world and the group has already received widespread acclaim for their simple yet powerful message.  In March 2011 'Take 3' was awarded the Innaugural 'Taronga Conservation Society Green Grant' and a $50, 000 purse to help develop the organisation with the help of the team at Taronga Zoo. They aim to build on existing partnerships that will see the message target the wider community of beach users including surfers, fishermen, recreational boaters, surf life savers and everyone living on the coastal fringe.

Coles vs. Woolworths Online Shopping

Dan & I put to the test the online grocery shopping to see if this was going to be something better for our household. We had a few reasons for wanting to do online grocery shopping being:

  • We don't want to impulse buy on things we see in the shops
  • The weather may make it hard for us to get out with taking Niahbella (e.g if it rains we don't want to take Niahbella out in it - our local shops aren't undercover).
  • Our local shopping centre has become a huge complex now with the recent upgrade and revamp adding in so many more shops so the car parking is a nightmare.
  • If I was to go do the grocery shopping myself I wouldn't be able to as I have the pram with Niahbella.
  • Catering for parties or large events it' a good way to get your bulk order to you.

First off Dan & I tried Woolworths because they offered free shipping for your first 3 orders so that enticed us to use them. Dan & I however usually shop at Coles for majority of our groceries as we just find the pricing better towards our overall shop.
When paying through Woolworths you need a credit card to purchase - this was the only pay method offered by Woolworths.

When we first got our order through Woolworths the driver asked where we would like the groceries - as I'm not always with a clean house I just advised to put them near the front door as I didn't want the driver to see my messy house haha!

I was pretty sceptical about ordering fresh produce from either store online but I decided to just order a watermelon piece to see how it arrived and I wasn't too impressed it was all yucky in the white part making it look like either it was an old piece or was just smacked around a bit to much on its way here.
My birthday came up in the next few orders I made with Woolworths and then they sent me an email giving me $10 off my next shop and a code to use for a Woolworths mud cake for free.
The usual delivery fee is around $13 for the order.

Dan & I then went onto try Coles as they offer first shop delivered free as long as it is over $100 and they have now introduced free delivery on a Wednesday - which is something we will be taking into consideration and most likely taking advantage off once we get our shopping sorted because we usually have a routine shop of having it delivered or going to the shops on a weekend so we always run out on a weekend basis.

When paying through Coles you can pay via credit card or you have the option of paying via EFTPOS when they deliver your groceries. I was going to try out the EFTPOS option to be a little different from what I had always done with Woolworths but then I thought it's just easier to get the payment done so the driver can drop the shopping and leave without having me run around to organise the payment, but this is a good option for those that don't have a credit card or debit card.

Something I found is that when I had my first shop I was missing quite a few things after my delivery had arrived and I checked the receipt and found it didn't have those missing products on there - so I had a little play around online and I noticed that when you click the 'add to trolley' button it doesn't always go into your actual trolley so I warn you to double check that it goes in!
As I said above for being sceptical with ordering fresh produce, I was being the same with Coles but decided to do a bigger produce order and it wasn't so bad but I found the lettuce wasn't that great and was small.
The usual delivery fee for Coles was between $9-$13 with a minimum shop of $50.

Overall when it comes to them both you can select a time slot that best suits you for delivery and day.
Make sure you sign up to both of the offer emails as they have different specials going from time to time where you will get free delivery etc.

I wouldn't order fresh fruit & veg produce as I would rather pick myself from the stores and no that it will be a good one rather then expecting anything to turn up via delivery.

Have you used online shopping before? What was it like for you?
