Kiehl's Partners with Alicia Keys

KIEHL’S PARTNERS WITH ALICIA KEYS AND KEEP A CHILD ALIVE ON NEW FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE
Kiehl’s Australia to Donate 100% of proceeds of its Limited Edition Midnight Recovery Concentrate to Australian Federation of AIDS Organizations

Kiehl’s Since 1851, 14-time Grammy Award winning artist and philanthropist Alicia Keys, and Keep a Child Alive, the organization Keys co-founded in 2003, are partnering to bring dignified treatment, care and support to children and families affected by HIV. Beginning 1st January, Kiehl’s will begin selling a special edition of their Midnight Recovery Concentrate with 100% of the proceeds, up to $200,000, benefiting Keep a Child Alive. The special edition designed bottle includes an important call to action from Alicia Keys to, “Join our movement,” echoing her continued drive to encourage everyone to use their voice for change and make a difference in the fight against AIDS.

72% of children who need HIV treatment are not receiving it. By purchasing the special edition Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, the public can join the movement and help get HIV treatment and loving care to children who need it most. Buying one bottle of Midnight Recovery Concentrate helps Keep a Child Alive provide one month of HIV care, medicines, and love to a child living with HIV.
Beyond treatment, there are many critical aspects of this HIV care: transportation to clinics; healthy meals that often are the primary meal of the day; fun activities for children to help them live positively and deal with the challenges of life with HIV; essential skills training for women so they can financially support their children going forward.

“Keep a Child Alive is working towards a world where everyone can lead fulfilling lives, regardless of their HIV status,” shares Alicia Keys. “Supportive partners like Kiehl’s are part of our extended family. They share our passion for bringing dignified treatment, care and support to children and families affected by HIV. Every action, big or small can make a difference and take us one step closer in making health care a human right.”

“Kiehl’s has a longstanding heritage of working to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic with our work beginning in the 1980’s, when it was taboo to even talk about the disease. Just in the past 10 years, we have raised more than $2,500,000 for the cause,” shares Cheryl Vitali, Kiehl’s Worldwide General Manager.“We are proud to continue this important philanthropic work with Keep a Child Alive, an effective, on-the- ground, organization built on the foundation that every person has the right to health care and that all children deserve a future.”

“Keep a Child Alive is different. We are a small, nimble organization, which allows us to go where the need is greatest and to support community-owned solutions,” states Peter Twyman, CEO of Keep a Child Alive. “We move boldly and with urgency in our work, and, with Alicia Keys as our Global Ambassador, we use our voice to raise awareness and rally resources to ensure that children, families, and communities live with dignity and have hope for their future. And our partnerships with companies such as Kiehl’s are so important for the work we do. We couldn’t do it without them.”

While great advances in the treatment of HIV/AIDS have been made in the past decade—with 54% of adults now getting treatment in low and middle income countries compared to the 0.13% ten years ago—AIDS remains one of the world's most serious health challenges. Statistics also show that without HIV treatment, half of the children living with HIV will die by the age of two, and 80% by the age of five. Over 16 million children have been orphaned due to AIDS. As the startling statistics above make clear, there is still a lot of work to do to help children and families whose lives continue to be dramatically impacted by the virus.

LUSH - Valentine's Day range for 2014

VALENTINE’S DAY 2014
Get in the mood for love with this collection of new creations especially for Valentine’s Day!
Introducing...

NEW! Love Locket bath bomb ($8.95) ... Unlock pure luxury The Love Locket was inspired by the kind of heart-shaped locket you wear as a necklace, perhaps with a secret photograph of a loved one inside. Like any love locket, you need to unlock the bath bomb to reveal the secret hidden within. Crack your locket in half, to unveil the hidden heart in the centre.

The outside of the locket is full of paper hearts that will float out onto the surface of the water, while the hidden heart inside is laden with agar hearts to create a spectacular bath time display. Use each half and the inner heart individually (so three baths in total), or throw it all in the bath tub at once for a really decadent bath, enough to get any heart aflutter. The brand new fragrance is made from some of our most luxurious essential oils: Fairtrade vanilla absolute, neroli oil and jasmine absolute are blended to create a sweet, sensual and uplifting indulgent bath time. (Vegan)

NEW! Neon Love soap ($6.95 per 100g) ... Fresh and fruity
Inspired by 12 Months of Neon Love, a collaboration between artists Victoria Lucas and Richard William Wheater, beginning on Valentine’s Day 2011 and ending on Valentine’s Day 2012. The art featured lyrics from well-known love songs, in huge neon writing!
This huge heart shaped soap, emblazoned with the word ‘Love’, is scented with a brand new fragrance of bergamot, rosewood and cinnamon leaf oil and packed full of fresh ingredients, such as fresh figs, passion fruit juice and soya yoghurt to nourish and soften the skin. Hiding inside are plenty of little white hearts to ensure every slice looks as beautiful and romantic as it smells. (Vegan)

The rosewood oil used in this soap comes from a project set up with funding from the Sustainable Lush Fund (S-Lush), where 2% of our annual buying spend is invested back into initiatives. With money from S-Lush, we bought the rights to a 6,000 hectare forest concession deep in the Amazon, to stop loggers from further deforestation. Working with local communities, we found the land to be full of rosewood trees and over the past few years we’ve worked with the locals on the ground there to set up a sustainable supply of rosewood oil, with their own distillation machinery to enable them to produce the oil on site. So far we’ve received over 100 kilos of rosewood oil from this source.

NEW! Close To You massage bar ($8.95) ... Melt your heart
This smooshable massage bar was inspired by the humble jammy dodger. As you peek through the heart shaped hole on top of the bar you can see into the sumptuous white fondant centre.

Tender is the Night massage bar will be joining the all year round range. (Vegan)

LUSH Cruelty Free Christmas Blogger/Vlogger Event

Re-doing our first date with LUSH pics... with Katt - Chanelkxo Blog & Erin - 3B's Blog.
Just before Christmas I was lucky enough to go back on a second date with LUSH to go over the current Cruelty Free Christmas, upcoming stock and movements for LUSH in 2014.

Firstly we were greeted by the lovely Babs then allowed to do a little wonder around smelling, playing, admiring and absorbing the amazing LUSH store in Swanston St, Melbourne whilst waiting for all the invitees to arrive.

The ball got rolling and words shared from the LUSH team about the upcoming campaigns and discussing of what was in our goodie bags to take home.

After our little information chats we were split into 2 groups where we learnt some different ways to Japanese Furoshiki wrap with scarves that LUSH sell in-store, which provide a re-useable packaging.
The four ways we were showed can be video demonstrated to you via:
-       The Flower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMzjoJ2_qSE
-       The Bow Wrap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDKvfTOK2n8
-       The Drawstring bag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny3sT1UqilU
-       The Two-Bottle Wrap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cve5i7YOaGE

We then got hands on and were shown/assisted in the making of cupcake the fresh face mask made of fresh, real products - which we were lucky to take home a tub with us!

Then it was all up to us to walk around the shop once again indulging in the products with demonstrations, product tips and trials with the gorgeous LUSH team and admiring all the chrissy filled packs.

And what you have all been waiting for... The contents of our goodie bags, LUSH never disappoint:

  • SIKKIM GIRLS BODY LOTION
  • CUPCAKE FRESH FACE MASK
  • SANTA'S LIP SCRUB
  • SANTA BABY LIP TINT
  • PONCHE SHOWER GEL
  • ROSE JAM SHOWER GEL
  • SNOW FAIRY SHOWER GEL
  • GOLDEN WONDER BALLISTIC
  • THE CHRISTMAS PENGUIN BALLISTIC
  • LORD OF MISRULE BALLISTIC
  • SNOW FAIRY SPARKLE MASSAGE BAR

Having my cupcake moments! Out of the tubs you get I got 4 uses from this. The best way to spread this completely around your face is to have wet fingers to apply onto the skin - if you try to apply with dry fingers, it makes a huge mess and most of it ends on the floor then on your face.
Cupcake Fresh Face Mask gives you a chocolate hit without the calories!

My bath after having a Golden Wonder Ballistic - excuse the bath toys, they're aren't mine honestly - little Niahbella's!
If surprised me that the bath wasn't this gold shimmery colour but when you put in your Golden Wonder Ballistic it fixes out and has blue and pink inside. After the bath I was left with gorgeous but slight shimmery skin from the Golden Wonder.

All the blogger/vlogger ladies of the night.

Product Review: Gummee Glove

GUMMEE GLOVE
RRP $19.95
Teething Mitten For Babies
Soothing Control For Baby, Hands Free For Parents!

Sight:
The beautiful bright, contrasting colours provide visual stimulation for babies. The Gummee glove soon becomes a familiar, comforting object for baby.

Hearing:
The black & white crinkle patch helps to teach baby about 'cause and effect', while also providing additional amusement and entertainment vallue. The black and white colours also provide extra visual stimulation for baby.

Mouth feel:
Gummee Glove has three protrusions of rubber teether's plus a detachable water filled teething ring. The ring can be easily removed for sterilising & the water teether is filled with 100% pure water.

Touch:
The Gummee Glove can be secured safely onto baby's hands, so baby has total control.

Key Features:

  • Detachable water filled teething ring
  • Laundry bag for easy washing
  • Various rubber protrusions for biting
  • Adjustable fit for any baby

When I first put the Gummee Glove onto my bubs hand you could tell she was like what's going on.. it took her a little while to get used to a bit of extra weight to move on her hand. It was actually quite funny (as pictured above) when she first had it on because she put it up to her ear like it was a telephone or something, very cute moment though!
Niahbella is 4 months at the moment and has been going through the sucking of her hands and fingers, shoving her toys etc. in her mouth for about 3 weeks now.
It concerns me at times because she gets to the point of where she sticks her fingers in too far that she'll dry reaching or sometimes cause herself to vomit and it doesn't matter how many times I pull her fingers out, they're always going to go back in. That's a good thing about this Gummee Glove as it attaches to their hand.

And for my little hand model/tester (my daughter) is wearing the Gummee Glove (pictured above and below) which demonstrates that there is a velcro strap which goes around the wrist to stay on.

The glove is mainly for the use of babies between 3- 6 months as this is when they are most unlikely able to grasp a teething toy by themselves without assistance.
The Gummee Glove is completely hands free for us Mummies so we can stick it on bubby and be able to do what we need to.

My bubs (being 4 months as said above) is yet to get the teething ring part into her mouth which is at the top of the glove, I think this might be due to the fact her arms are to short??

I love the features that have been put into this Gummee Glove, Being that it was created by a mummy - she knows exactly what we look for in and what we need within a teething toy.

It's very compact and easily cleaned for bubs to have. With the machine washable material and the little laundry bag which can also allow you to have this teething toy put into a cover to take out and kept clean in the bag whilst having it on hand in your bag.

My daughter is attracted to anything black and white (maybe this is a baby thing - I'm not to sure) so she's very keen on the Gummee Glove.

No teeth have appeared yet on my little miss and I am a little worried for what's in store as I don't hear good things about teething but I am very keen to get more use out of this for my little one.

I highly recommend the Gummee Glove to any Mum who is looking for a teething toy!

Santaland at Myer, Melbourne 2013

On the Sunday before Xmas we ventured into the city to go to the Myers Christmas attractions and see what all this hype was about.
The windows - this year I heard and saw that they have done their story time with shutters so you listen to a part of the story and then the shutters close and you move onto the next one which I think is awesome! Although we just looked on as we walked past I loves the colors and realness to the windows this year.
But the main reason we went down was to get a Santa photo as I've heard good things... Well I must say mine was the opposite for a FIRST ever experience to a Myers Santa and a FIRST family experience with miss N whose 4 months - although she's too young to understand what's going on, this is a special one to us as it's a first family Christmas photo we could enjoy but I was really annoyed with how the outcome came after traveling an hour, paying $15 for parking, waiting an hour in the line to get a photo with the heaters being up full ball in the early morning, the ignorance of some of the staff, photo rooms, photo quality and photo packages!!

Let me take you through from the start each point listed above.. We traveled an hour to go to the best for our FIRST family photo and parked in the closest parking we could find to Myer for $15 flat.
We then had to wait an hour to be seen by Santa - as I approached the queue to see Santa, I saw a sign saying you could book online and be seen right on your appointment slot. I don't think there was much advertising of this so the public knew. There was barely anyone in the prebooked photos with Santa queues which I'm assuming had it been marketed out better that they would of had a very good queue there.
The line was big which I didn't expect at all at 9am in the morning! There was about 30 people in front of us in the line - the day wasn't really a cold one, was a little drizzly outside but the store had the heaters up really high - shortly after it changed but gosh standing there in the heat was horrible!

Whilst the line was big I decided to go and feed Niahbella so she would be happy in photo - did you know Myer only have parents rooms on the 3rd floor where the kids floor is? I thought that was a bit silly! It wasn't properly displayed that only 3rd floor had the parents rooms so here I was pushing around a pram and holding Niahbella going back and forth on the 6th floor trying to find somewhere... I was about to just park myself in the little ottoman/couches they have with the TV's and give a show to everyone breastfeeding because I couldn't find anywhere!
When I was out of the line breastfeeding, Dan was holding our spot in line for the 20 minutes we were out in the parents room and during that time there was Santa's helpers coming down the line giving out little Santa paper beards to decorate - Dan was a little annoyed that the Santa's helper completely ignored him and skipped him in the queue to give him a handout. Okay we probably didn't want one anyway but it's nice to ask. I thought maybe it was because he didn't have kids with him but yet the people in-front who were holding queue and behind us with a baby were given/asked if they wanted one.

My gosh the photo rooms were teeny tiny and very hot. The rooms weren't family photo friendly at all - Santa is in a corner and you could have to have all the kids on 1 side of Santa instead of spread out on both sides which looks nicer. We got a family photo done as well and I was standing in the small space on one side and Dan was kneeling down on the other side.

The quality of the photos weren't up to standard as well - in our photos you can see a glossy shine to Santa & us... well it was more like sweat that shone through from the hot heated rooms!
The photo packages were ridiculously high priced but I guess thats everywhere.

Something I really like in Santa photos and think is a must, is that they list where the photo was taken and the year. Santaland had the year but no Santaland Myer in the photo.

I'm pretty disappointed with Myer and I think next year we might try David Jones - can anyone recommend good places? Did you go to Myer... what were your thoughts?
